ENCOUNTERS ARTISTS

Encountering Encounters: The Book

Encountering Encounters is a book that celebrates the first decade of our community art project embedded in the exciting, quirky and arty city of Brighton & Hove.

This beautifully produced 68-page book tells the story of how Encounters evolved and learnt how to make a contribution to our community.

This Year’s Theme

This year Encounter’s artists were asked to reflect on what it means to be an artist today, considering the current political and socio-economic landscape. We see how their artistic practice has adapted to contextual challenges, including choices about materials and techniques, presentation formats and multiple other decisions.

Encounters show for the summer festival is 6/7, 13/14, 20/21 and 27/28 May 2023.

2023 Exhibition

COMPACT-FORM, LUGGABLE ART WORKS
Unpacking the Luggage Of Great Artists

The exhibition offers an opportunity for visitors to see how artists and their practice are simultaneously constrained and obliquely stimulated by their surroundings. We show how artists respond to the often-unpredictable ebbs and flows of the experience of time.
