No need to book - just come to Encounters, enjoy the show and hear about Marion's new book which is described as "a detailed guide to how tiles can be made and used most effectively, and how their full potential can be realised. She first explains how to get started with a specific project in mind. She then looks at different ways of decorating and making tiles, particularly focusing on the exciting possibilities of surface decoration using glazes and slips. She goes on to explore how to make tiles with relief work and three-dimensional forms, using modelling and moulds. Further chapters on tiles and print, installation, freeform tiling, the tile in context and working to commission complete this impressive guide."
Philomena Harmsworth's Performance of Dismantle the Flow
25th May at 4pm
No Pre-Booking - Just come along
Philomena writes: "Dismantle for Flow" is a live journey - an installation combining film and theatre. My writing is visual and my paintings narrative, I am revelling in the place where the two art forms cross over. The pivotal point for retrospection is at the cross roads of midlife. As the cyclic, generational wheel slowly turns then the cross roads are revolving, up is now down. As a child, and a parent, my gathered experience surfaces from my ancestors but also from deep within my children and their children yet to come. A pause on my way round understanding the world - I have been dismantling my thoughts to allow flow. The performance is made up of poetry, art, video and a book…"Dismantle for Flow” is 20 minutes of words and imagery; the myriad of short stories making up "Dismantle for Flow” kaleidoscope together to construct the whole."
